Well hello to you my reader chums! It's a new year, and a lot of people take this as a chance to set new goals and jump into new things, and I'm definitely one of those people. A new year is a chance to wipe the slate clean, look back and reflect, and focus on your new goals.
Whether you've set one goal or made an entire list, here are 5 ways to stick to your new year goals.
Get yourself a goal journal
One of the best ways I find to stick to goals is having a physical list in front of me that I'm able to tick off. I'm a bit weird like that and love making lists and ticking them off as I go - it's like a sense of accomplishment. Instead of a regular list, invest in a goal journal. There are plenty you can find on places like Etsy or Homesense which can be packed with questions to really make you think of what your goals are and the actions you need to take to achieve them. One of my friends bought me a goal journal for Christmas and I've already started to fill it out - and love it.
Make an action plan
All goals are different, whether you'd like to save money, travel more, find a new job, or create a fitness routine, you'll need to make an action plan that works for you. For example, if you'd like to save 5k by the end of the year, figure out how much you're able to put aside each month to be able to reach that goal.
Another action point that really works for me, is writing a do to list every day. By having something to work towards every day (even if it's the smallest task), you'll have a lot more focus and drive about what you need to get done. And, it should spur you on - as there is nothing more motivating than ticking off a list.
Don't put too much pressure on yourself
There's a difference between working hard and overworking - and it's important to know the difference. When you're focusing on a goal, make sure to put in the actions to pursue it but don't work too hard that you're making yourself lost sleep over it. Finding a balance is vital and will make it easier for you to achieve all your goals.
Praise yourself
This may sound obvious but congratulating yourself every step of the way will give you a positive mindset to continue pursuing all your goals. I always say to be your own hype girl as believing in yourself really is the first step to achieving anything you want to do. Praise yourself whether that's a compliment or treating yourself to a new piece of clothing or experience as a well-done gift. It's the little incentive that will keep you going.
Have fun with it
Setting goals is a fun and ambitious experience. We all have something we want to work towards and getting there should be a fun process. Even though at times it can be hard and difficult, every step you're getting closer to your goal should be celebratory and a good thing. Try not to get swept up with the trickiness of reaching the goal and enjoy it. As remember, every step you get closer to your goal, you're further away from what you used to be.
I hope you enjoyed this post. What other ways do you suggest to stick to your goals?
Thank you for reading <3
Love these goals! This year i've decided to set goals too, allows you to work towards something with rather than new years resolutions. I love your 'having fun' goal, something i need to work on x
ReplyDeleteThank you lovely! Yes, exactly that xx
DeleteThese are some really helpful tips. I've been so bad at achieving goals in recent years. Someone suggested to me putting a date on them of when you want to achieve them by so that you can work towards each goal.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Yes, I found dating your goals helps too as you have a deadline xx
DeleteThis is such a great post! I bought a diary/ journal last week and can't wait for it to arrive so I can start tracking my goals properly. I can imagine writing it down really helps xx

I think making a list with good plan and keeping it realistic is the most essential. And also if we use them as our achievement guidance rather than pressure it's so much more motivating achieving anything :)

I agree!
DeleteI love this! I don't normally make New Years Resolutions because I never stick to them but having a few small achievable goals is perfect. Setting a plan to achieve them and also praising yourself when you either do reach them or make progress are such great tips.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I completely agree xx
DeleteAnd think it's an awesome idea to track our goals! Thanks for sharing! <3

DeleteIt's so important to not put too much pressure on yourself when setting goals and making sure you achieve them, that's why I don't set too many goals at the start of a new year! This is a great post Della x

Exactly, thank you so much! xxx
DeleteI definitely need to get better at being my own hype woman! It's so easy to criticise and feel like you're not doing enough, but that needs to change. Even doing something is useful, especially as we're in a pandemic and motivation low. Really enjoyed this post!

DeleteDefinitely agreed with don’t put too much pressure on yourself! I normally give up on the goals if they aren’t really realistic or reachable but if I set smalll goals and reach them, it motivates me to reach more goals :)

ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteI think checking in is super important to make sure you're still on track
ReplyDeleteYes, I completely agree!
DeleteI've done all of this and my planner is my treasure xD I've decided to take care of myself more this year so I don't want to push myself (as I did last year) when I didn't hit my goals :) I enjoyed reading your tips, thank you so much x
ReplyDeleteThank you lovely! I hope it all goes well for you xx

DeleteGreat post! Having a method to stick to can make goals seem less daunting too! My 2021 diary unfortunately won't be hear until mid-January haha, but until then I'm tracking my goals in my notes in my phone
ReplyDeleteIt can, thank you!
DeleteThese are all great ideas and I like the action plan idea of setting and sticking to goals. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYou're so right about learning the difference between working hard and overworking. Most people get the balance wrong and can end up burning out. I think it's important to push yourself but also know when to take a step back and be kind to yourself x
ReplyDeleteThey really do, thank you!

DeleteThese tips are so helpful. I love how you pointed out not putting too much pressure on yourself. It's so easy to get overwhelmed if you're not setting your goals properly!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! Thank you x
DeleteI love using my planner and I make it fun with stickers and doodles to make it seem less like a to do list. Anything pretty works for me. I also make sure to reward myself everyday - after 3 hours work on my assignment today I watched Netflix for a while and snuck a few biscuits in too! Nothing worse for productivity than needless self imposed pressure. Great post, great advice and I hope you achieve your own 2021 goals too. Xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat advice there, got to make things pretty! Thank you so much xx
DeleteI love these suggestions! I always make little lists for myself but I think it's great that you mentioned not putting too much pressure on yourself. It's so hard to become too fixated on one goal that you don't appreciate any other progress you're making, or rob yourself of the enjoyment x

DeleteThese are good tips, thanks for sharing and happy new year! :)
ReplyDeleteMy goal this year is to spend less on fashion - hopefully by buying less! I find tracking my fashion spend through the year works well to keep me on track with this :)
Hope that you had a great weekend! Ours was a nice quiet one at home with the 3 day Brisbane lockdown due to there being a case of coronavirus outside hotel quarantine, but lockdown ends tonight as there have been no more cases :)
Away From Blue
Thank you lovely! That's a great goal, I hope you achieve it. Hope you have a lovely week now you're out of lockdown xx
DeleteI started using Microsoft To Do just before Christmas as a replacement to Trello and it has changed my life! I love Trello for the planning side but I just need a list to tick off throughout the day. I even bought a diary/planner again this year and although lots of blank pages, I know they will fill up. We shouldn't be so hard on ourselves if we fail one day, just start again the next day! Excellent post, Della.
ReplyDeleteI love that - thanks so much x
DeleteLove these ideas to keep on top of your goals. I created just 3 easily acheivable goals this year, and so far I'm doing great!x
ReplyDeleteThis was such a great read and with plenty of helpful tips! You're not the only one, I love making lists and feel accomplished ticking off tasks. Rewarding and praising yourself too!
ReplyDeleteI am one of those people that sets goals and them forgets halfway because I don't write them down, but will invest in a journal for sure. Thanks for sharing x
Thank you so much!!
DeleteThe goal journal really helps, for moments when you forget, you just go back to your journal. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBernie,

Exactly that!!
DeleteFab tips. I didn't actually set any goals for this year it just didn't feel right to me. I only set 3 intentions and they're not something I can just cross off a list, so I really have to acknowledge how I feel about whether I'm achieving them or not! x
ReplyDeleteThank you lovely! I think intentions is a great way to look at things as it gives you a direction to work towards xx
DeleteI love that you mentioned not putting pressure on yourself when it comes to your goals! This year I set myself a couple of knowledge and culture based goals because I knew they'd be fun to work on throughout the year and wouldn't put pressure on myself :) x

DeleteA goal journal and an action plan are two great ways to stay on track with how you are doing/achieving your goals! I like to think of goals and intentions as reasons to grow so they are also definitely something that should inspire fun. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing five important reminders!
Thank you!!
DeleteLoved this Della especially the 'Don't put too much pressure on yourself' after the year we've all had!
